Defenders' Position on a Soccer Field

The Sweeper
The sweeper is Positioned between the goalkeeper and the rest of the defense, as previously stated. The sweeper's job is to "sweep up" anything that gets past the defensive line in soccer. If a player from the opposing team gets past a defender, the sweeper will be ready to come in behind the defender and tackle the player.
If the ball is played past a defender, the sweeper will have seen the move coming and will be ready to "sweep up" the ball.
Center Back
A center back's job is to protect the goal behind them. They are first and foremost defenders, and they must do all possible to keep the goal and the goalkeeper in front of them safe.
A center back's goal is to keep the ball from getting past them, even if there is generally another player on the pitch behind them.
As a result, a center defender is usually larger and stronger than the majority of the other players on the pitch. Their job is to cause havoc for the opposition forwards. Intercept any passes, shots, or moves they make by getting in their way.
Full Back
